Venezuela is a completely divided country. In the impoverished barrios of Caracas, Chavistas make up nearly 90%. In the middle-class and wealthy neighborhoods Chavez is roundly despised and one does not speak openly in favor of Chavez. This lack of cross-over and common ground is reflected in the media: private TV stations range from blantantly to rabidly anti-Chavez, while State TV is an instrument of communication for the Chavez administration.
