Hugo Chavez's "Bolivarian Revolution" draws inspiration from earlier Latin American revolutions, principally Cuba's and Bolivar's independence movement. But Venezuela's process is unique, a mixture of capitalist reforms and socialist tenets. As one of our guides, Miguel Barreto told us, "we are working within the democratic process, but we are trying to overcome the same structures as others have. There is no growth if you simply bring and apply an already established model. We are constructing our own revolutionary process." |
